Principal’s Welcome

Kia Ora and Welcome to Whareama School

At Whareama School we enjoy a strong family culture.  Our school is a modern, attractive and well maintained physical environment.  We encourage our students to be proud of their surroundings and are developing ourselves continually as an Enviroschool.

We value manners and encourage our students to care for and interact with each other and staff in a respectful manner. Our care and concern for our students and their needs is what drives our school and is central to the life of our school. Our staff develop quality relationships with the children and their whanau.

Parents are always welcomed into our school and we communicate efficiently to ensure they know what is happening. Every opportunity is made to celebrate differences and unity in different cultures and we enjoy teaching Te Reo Maori to all of our students.

Our staff are continually upskilling to stay in touch with the latest teaching pedagogy. We concentrate and believe in the basics first and foremost. Our students have strong literacy, numeracy and ICT skills and we continually monitor the effectiveness of our programmes. We teach the use of key competencies and students are encouraged to use these in everyday life and their academic work. We seize every opportunity to offer our students extra curricular activities and Education Outside the Classroom is a very important part of our school programme.

We sculpt our teaching programmes on student data and areas for improvement. This shows us and the child what they can do and then their next learning step. We keep on-going records that map student’s progress as they move through the school. We use conferences with parent, child and teacher to inform and gain feedback.

We provide opportunity for participation and excellence in sport. We celebrate many successes both in and out of the classroom and stress that our size is not hindrance, but an advantage.

I, and all staff, are extremely proud to be working in such a great school where learning is valued and celebrated. Our school has a wonderful community, fantastic environment, modern resources, enthusiastic teachers and incredible students……all this ensures it is the best rural school in New Zealand.
